Introduction
Rameswaram is a town in Ramanathapuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on an island separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel and is less than 40 kilometers from the Jaffna Peninsula, Sri Lanka. Together with Kashi, it is considered to be one of the holiest places in India to Hindus. Hence, it is a bustling pilgrim centre. Rameswaram, also known as the Varanasi of the south. Which was built in the 17th century and is situated close to the sea on the eastern side of the island; this temple is famous for its 1200 gigantic granite columns. In order to attain Moksha it is believed that a visit to Rameshwaram is mandatory. Rameshwaram is significant for the Hindus as a pilgrimage to Kashi is not considered complete without a pilgrimage to Rameshwaram.

- Air :-The nearest airport is Madurai, 167 kms away.
- Rail:-The railway network connects Rameshwaram to and from Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy and Thanjavur. The 2 km long Indira Gandhi Bridge connects the island of Rameshwaram with the mainland of Mandapam.
- Road:-Well connected by roads and bus services to all the major cities nearby, especially, Thiruvallur, Kanyakumari, Trichy, Pondicherry, Tanjore and Chennai.
